glad someone does and doesn't just think I'm starting shit to be a pissant lol. I think this is an important discussion people should have more because we all technically "care about local music" but how do we drive a return to more than 0.1% of people actually going out and supporting it?

 

everyone has their reasons but collectively the perception is that it won't be worth it, and idk how to change that but I at least want to engage people and see why they think its so much more of a hassle than other similar forms of entertainment where you watch something loud happen for a few hours

 

a LOT of "events" like that happen at night and don't end till at least 9:30-10, not just shows haha

 

Was just told buy the maintenance guy changing out my furnace filter that some YouTuber named I think PillPrepper? said all the people working from home will probably lose their jobs because of the democrats and it some how tied in with giving money to immigrants?

 

I’m an old man. Anything past 10pm is a struggle for me. Even shows of bands I love at a national level are inconvenient as fuck for me and I’ve skipped shows of bands I enjoy simply because of inconvenience and timing

Gonna be real with you I do not like watching live bands that I do not know their songs especially in tiny venues with shitty sound where you can’t even make out the vocals most of the time. I don’t even like seeing openers sometimes if I’m not familiar with them. Live music is the best for me when I know every song and every word.

you and i care much more than 99% of the thread and site because we are in active bands within our own scenes. mostly everyone understands the idea you're talking about, but its not 30+ year old dudes that will keep local music scenes alive its about the youth and attracting the next generation of ppl to create new bands to keep their scene self sufficient. no hate to my thread brethren but i'd rather a 16 year old kid come see my band than an old curmudgeon that has no real interest in being there, especially when the majority of local shows happen at spots without amenities you'd expect from a mid-tier or higher tier venue. gotta create something for the youth

Every local hardcore show I’ve gone to at the print shop down the road from me has been super young crowds. Which rules! And also shows that’s the people keeping these places alive and who local shows are mainly for. When I was 16 I was at local shows every single weekend. I just do not have the capacity for that anymore and that’s ok. I want the younger crowds to shape the scene and latch onto these bands because that’s how it’s always felt in my eyes.

The one local smaller venue I frequent is closing and the shitty annoying one with terrible sound and all the people that run it are bratty assholes is still going strong.
