I think the common person understands (most) bands aren't overnight sensations and put in alot of time and miles to build their following locally and nationally

It's not a breaking concept, especially on a music website

I know that people KNOW this but the question then becomes why don't more people take action the same way they actively choose to support small local businesses in town

I have finite time. A local show is not going to take up that finite time. I appreciate local bands and the hustle they have. But it is so low on my priority list of things to do if I have free time. If that makes me a bad music fan I get it but I do not have the capacity for every single thing in this world

 

it’s also fair that both a) some people want to support on the ground floor and b) people want to wait until the band has the reps under their belt and has broken through enough to warrant their time

no, more so that people don't categorize local music the same way they categorize local business when it comes to "you know what I'm gonna actively support this today because I believe in its value to society, even though it's not as convenient and not part of my regular routine"

i can support my local coffee shops or mom and pop shops at nearly ANY time of the day, with relative ease and flexibility. this is not the same thing at all lol

 

Because it is easier to go to a small business than a late night local show.

 

Think it's just as simple as its easier for me to walk into a local bakery or eatery and be done and out in less than an hour, whereas a music show it's typically 2-3 hours

 

"You got coffee today why not go to the local music show at 11pm thats a half hour away"

 

okay this is actually insane to say lol

 

i would think the person who is an actual local musician wouldn’t commodify their art as a “business” but oh well

 

matinee shows that start in the afternoon exist. Venues that have doors open at 6 and bands done by 10 exist. etc It's also not an all or nothing thing. Seeing 2 of the 4 bands and then leaving is still supporting local music.

 

I do want to clarify that I wouldn't want to find a babysitter for an infant or a young toddler, and I get not doing that at all when you have a baby that's dependent on you constantly.
