That would be a frustrating thing because you still need to sell at the end of the day

I guess I am projecting salt that I actually love selling performance art and food. Not in a pipe dream way - if anyone has the mindset of a professional musician and a professional server, I definitely do. I’m really good at both, and I really enjoy my day to day if you ignore money. I love the way people light up when they have a great experience and being able to curate the kind of experience I’d love to have myself. But people in general (by proxy of capitalism itself) have considered both industries more and more worthless of their time and money over time - and it’s sad to me that people highly value experiences like great food and a great concert but just have less and less respect for the grinding hard work and passion for the art that goes into presenting it to them.

Not saying anyone here, it’s a whole existential crisis I have with society in general lol. That we literally used to value fun public experiences more and be more open to not knowing how it was gonna turn out. Nesting families included. We’re all under a lot of pressure and have to prioritize money a lot more because of inflation and it’s nobody’s fault that they don’t have the energy etc but i think social media desensitizing us to everything amazing in the world lol, and the increasing convenience of home entertainment, also plays a role.

When I was growing up, being at this level of serving tables and promoting music would mean I was getting paid and doing alright. It would also mean something to more people if I handed them a flyer or like a demo CD. It wouldn’t be so slow at the top hotel restaurant in the city that you might get 2 tables on a Tuesday.

Instead, I gotta work 80 hour weeks between music and the restaurant just to promote shows well enough to draw 50-100 people on a weeknight cause 90% of the bands I play with just can’t swing that lol. I’m sad that I’m getting close to that age where I’m too tired to fight this fight and like, probably gonna give up the dream if 1) this restaurant doesn’t catapult me into a professional somm or service standards role 2) this album goes largely unnoticed and fails to generate momentum. And I get that a lot of people already gave up their dreams but it’s a little different when you doubled down and DIDNT follow your college path (twice) and intentionally DIDNT have a family that fills that sort of void for most people because of your passion.

so yeah. If I came across didactic and like I was shaming people for not going to local shows, I can admit I was projecting.

Wasn’t there something years back where all the other baseball mascots wanted to bang Mr Met’s wife?

I’ve got a memory just don’t know if it was real or a dream
