So here's our next step, and important context ahead of time is we're buying from a developer, not another family.

Our lawyer is working with their lawyer on getting us an extension. If they grant it, then our buyers are gonna list their current home (they were planning on keeping both and renting it out) and then use the proceeds from that sale to buy our house.

If that doesn't work, we then have to work on getting our down payment back. There's a possibility, albeit slim, that they go full asshole and withhold returning it. So the best case scenario is extensions are granted and they can sell their shit hole quickly, and we just move back 3 weeks basically. Worst case scenario is our buyers say "meh, too much effort" and back out entirely and the sellers for our new house go full asshole and keep our deposit and we're out like $35,000.
