Maybe this is just me personally being tired of anyone being surprised when guys continue to get jobs, but I do think about this stuff often in relation to my own familial experience

Yeah and I do think that’s such an unfathomable experience that a lot of us could never fully understand it, so it’s something I think about in this conversation for sure

This is exactly my stance. I believe in second chances (depending on the initial crime) to be a productive member of society but you are not entitled, nor do I believe, your second chance comes as being a famous athlete being paid millions of dollars and is looked at as a role model to kids when it comes to anything violence related

 

I don't know. I see both sides of this. I wouldn't be crying over it if someone didn't get a second chance to play in the NFL....shouldn't have fucked it up to begin with. And I don't think the NFL should be required to give someone a second chance or anything like that, but I also don't think that a player should be automatically disqualified from playing in the NFL again either

 

Guys like Josh Gordon and Justin Blackmon should have never been suspended under a league substance abuse policy. I don’t remember the specific details on both, but that’s something that should have been handled individually by each time to determine the best course of action. Like if they were too high or drunk at practice or games you can discipline them but they never should have been banned

 

I have a vague memory of this thread exploding around the time of #MeToo; maybe it was the Ray Rice incident? Or a similar one about that same time. It got flooded with non-sports forum people, and trying to explain rationally how absolutely f'd the NFLs domestic violence polices were, but also that absolutely nothing was going to change (and in that case, I was wrong, they actualyl got more lax after they did away with the commissioners exempt list) and that the way the league operated was the way the league operated was the longest 6hrs Ive ever spent on this site.

 

And that policy got really hilarious real fast when NFL teams were in states with legal weed at the same time. And the NFL started accepting ads from hard liquor companies, etc.

But the NFL didnt want to change course because they wanted the issue for the CBA as something to "give up" and use it to claw back more revenue or more games

 

If you want we can talk about Mahomes’s wife for a while and see what happens
