Still have some time left in the fourth quarter, but gonna share of quick takeaways from the Eagles’ first preseason game:

- Mekhi Becton played the first drive at RG while Tyler Steen played LG. Becton played just that one drive. Steen kicked over to RG then and played the entire first half through his ankle injury. Don’t want to declare the RG battle over just yet, but it’s really looking like the RG job is Becton’s to lose at this point.

- Quinyon Mitchell and Kelee Ringo looked really good. Looked like Mitchell blew a responsibility in coverage, but he bounced back with a PBU and almost pick on that same drive. Mitchell didn’t play long, but Ringo played into the early third and was routinely sticky in coverage with some PBUs. I hope Ringo can win the outside corner job over Isaiah Rodgers, but we’ll see.

- The Eagles backup OL from left to right was Fred Johnson, Trevor Keegan, Brett Toth, Tyler Steen, and Darian Kinnard. Toth and Kinnard are darkhorse candidates to make the roster, while Dylan McMahon and Matt Hennessy aren’t as likely to make the roster as I once thought. McMahon and Hennessy didn’t play until the third quarter.

- The Eagles pass rush got little to nothing going. Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham didn’t play tonight, while Bryce Huff didn’t play long. concerning that Nolan Smith played into the third quarter as long as he did when there are five other edge rushers on the roster. Smith got a sack in the third quarter, but he was essentially unblocked. I’d like to see him actually win versus a tackle for once.

- Johnny Wilson looked solid. His stat sheet won’t tell the story, but he was getting open and looked good as a blocker. He’s going to have a role.

- Jalyx Hunt showed some pop, especially when dropping into coverage. I’m interested to see how he develops this season.

- Kenny Pickett stinks

Update, Jake Elliott doinked a 50-yard field goal off the upright after missing an extra point earlier. Alarm bells are blaring

BUT, Patrick Johnson gets a strip sack on the very next play to set up Elliott for another field goal to potentially win the game

Thanks bud. Obviously, I have my opinions of what I believe the team should do, but I always try to keep in mind what the team tells us with their words and what they show us with their actions.

Like, contracts and draft capital would suggest that Tyler Steen and Kelee Ringo would be given starting jobs, but they might be backups behind Mekhi Becton and Isaiah Rodgers, respectively, who are on just one-year deals. Same with Nakobe Dean, who’s looking like he’s going to lose his job to Devin White and Zack Baun, who are both on one-year deals
