I have a LOT of ethical hang ups with the tech industry. The goal was to learn a skill that is in the sciences that I don’t mind doing every day. On surface level, programming was fun, designing information architecture was fun, I like challenging myself with math and logic, etc & I could see myself doing that for 8 hours. But just like when I almost got a business degree and then dropped out 10 years ago, I just can’t shake the bad feeling that I’ll be an active contributor in something that I believe is making society worse and is making America less and less free. At least when I’m serving tables and making music it’s about food and art and I can compartmentalize that from all the capitalism shit. But whereas 15+ years ago tech was the savior of American inefficiency and struggle, nowadays our fucked up system has contorted it into another Death Star
