Macon/Cordele area I think, it’s been a while lol. My grandfather is a Baptist pastor. They’re southern but I wouldn’t call them redneck. I grew up in south St Augustine and went to school with people from farming families, I should know lmao

Jacksonville has the weirdest combination of

1) big white dudes with beards and ugly ass tattoos who think they’re Vikings
2) who talk in southern accents
3) but love black culture and drill music and basketball and will go to jail just to prove how street they are

It wasn’t actually though. Narcolepsy wouldn’t go away just because you started taking Prozac lol. But me and other friends of his thought it could be narcolepsy for awhile

 

there were times where I'm pretty sure i was just sleepwalking through my job in Charlotte but it was also that period of time where i was working from like 6am to 12am so that could've also just been regular exhaustion lol

 

Thing is, if he’s driving for example, or if he’s really fixated on football stats or madden or music etc. he can stay awake forever. It wasn’t totally uncontrollable narcolepsy.

 

We also have family in Warner Robins. I think my grandfather is from one and my grandmother is from the other but I can’t remember which.

We’re all hypocrites dude. I have to make serving tables fun and be like “I wonder how many of these $54 tequilas I can sell today just by intricately explaining what it tastes like and how it’s made” because capitalism forces me to do that to avoid poverty

I damn sure am a DIY musician who wants to find a way to make this sustainable without a major label… but I also damn sure would take a $2 million dollar advance and lose the rights to my next two albums to set myself up for life. And I damn sure take pride in being good af at promo and talking to people / making connections and selling T shirts cause that’s the only way touring is even responsible and sustainable for me.

To be fair that’s probably not the driver, that’s just the AI that’s supposed to be controlling the track switching with to-the-second analytics

but AI’s ready tho. Self driving cars, autonomous management, important bureaucratic decisions that affect people’s lives, crime models biased by racist crime data based on previous racist arrests that is actively magnifying racist police activity in black neighborhoods… it’s fine. AI’s ready.

 

I dunno. Drivers here seem to have a lot of control. Start and stopping whenever. But could be AI. Like I fucking know. Never had this happen before. Just funny

 

(One of the things I am most anxious about when it comes to using my tech degree is I am staunchly against how quickly and recklessly we have put AI in control of very important things and how much every single tech company is focusing on it despite very clear and obvious flaws, lethal dangers, and far-reaching systemic side effects that AI constantly exhibits in those roles

Yeah it’s frustrating. No one who actually uses anything wants AI -least as it currently is. And yet here we are.

 

Sucks cause it does have a lot of potential. It has great applications when it comes to disease research and optimization of infrastructure in particular

But it’s all bittersweet because we aren’t cautious enough with it; we’re trying to apply it to way too many nuanced decisions without properly training and testing the models, and minor errors can snowball into catastrophic consequences. It’s crazy how an entire scientific breakthrough that is built entirely upon data analytics… is being rushed through R&D with very shoddy data analytics. where edge cases, skewed distributions, anomalies, glitches in data entry etc that can drastically, exponentially malign/alter how AI makes decisions… are not considered with AI nearly as much as they are accounted for in actual data science

 

Another annoying thing about AI is now everything done with a computer is just called AI.

 

Also, like with all technology things. It creates entirely new frontiers in terms of legal restrictions. It’s the wild fuckin west out there in terms of what companies can and can’t do with it. And money / corporations usually lobby for and straight up buy the rights to shit in court and get very corporate-leaning rulings in their favor way before common people even realize that it affects them. That already happened with the internet and that’s why we don’t actually have the right to privacy anymore and that’s why big companies can bully us with copyright infringement claims. It’s why Amazon became a legally allowed monopoly and has started to single handedly influence our economy into becoming more of an oligopoly. It’s gonna happen again with AI and it’s gonna be way worse.
