    The rivalry is back on

I guess if this was the top offer, may as well have held the pick vs trading down

although this is probably Quinyon + a comp pick 3, which seems solid

Guys the Jaguars actually have a franchise quarterback.

Fucking wild to say this but Trevor is about to be the only QB to ever start for Jax longer than 5 years LMAO

Brunell was technically 6 but he lost about a year to injury

Leftwich was 4 years, Garrard was 4 years, Gabbert was 2 years lmao, Bortles was 5 and that was way too long

then you got Minshew who started basically 1.5 years and after that it’s guys who played less than a season for us

Garrard’s the only guy who deserved more of an opportunity than he got. We wouldn’t have missed a beat if we just started him right after Brunell instead of drafting Leftwich. And then he wasn’t great in 2009-2010 but we once again drafted somebody much worse to be his replacement lol.

I get why it seemed like the move at the time - Garrard was a fourth round pick, Leftwich was a consensus top 10 prospect - but Garrard outperforming Leftwich both times he got hurt and then usurping him as the starter proved that drafting Leftwich at all was a waste of time lol. We already had Garrard before we even drafted Byron. Perhaps Garrard was a lot worse early on and being a film room body for a few years is why he ended up being okay when he finally started.

I also don’t get the Byron hype in hindsight - he was a division II player, he was always slow, he came into the league with a bum ankle that had just been broken in the senior year college playoffs, and his awkward throwing motion always took too long and made him very vulnerable to fumbles. Even if you think he’s great at throwing and reading defenses and even if he was clutch af in Div II bowl games, it should’ve been obvious he’d be a massive liability in the pocket. Leftwich was clearly more of a long term project than a “draft him at 7 to start right away” QB. Given what I know about the draft now, I think that was a bad decision & don’t understand why he was seen as consensus top 10

Gabbert made no sense either! He was rated as a top 15 if not top 10 prospect too but WHY? Dude never threw downfield and was scared of pressure at Mizzou. He was exactly the QB in the NFL he looked like in college - very low YPA, flat out wimpy performance and atrocious numbers under any sort of pressure, not a good runner even though he had speed. Idk how you watch a guy who plays like a coward in college and think “this guy’s gonna be a starter in the NFL”. What, because he has a nice throwing motion? Who cares if he recoils and panics and only throws checkdowns when he gets breathed on? I might have seen him step up in the pocket and throw a 20 yard pass like 3 or 4 times total in those two years.

Hated him more than I ever hated Bortles or Leftwich cause at least those guys had the balls to take a hit and let it rip downfield anyway. The 2011-2012 Jags offense was even less exciting than the 2023 Patriots offense, hated watching it

Leftwich ruled. Put some respect on his name.

He could surprise people as a backup QB but he was not a good starter. He rarely even had 200 yards passing in games and was overly running game and OL reliant because of his inability to avoid pressure. He was Peyton Manning slow and horrible at dodging pressure if the blocking wasn’t perfect, and his windmill throwing motion took so long and began below his waist. Absolute fumble machine & even if he held the ball, he had no chance of avoiding sacks enough to stay healthy on that bum ankle cause of how much of a big lumbering statue he was lol.

Was sad cause he could rip the ball 60 mph and he wasn’t actually bad at reading defenses. But that throwing motion / lack of mobility made him too vulnerable and slowed his process down enough to give defenses a head start
