Yes. Finding a way to get there DIY like they did, and already have enough of a reputation once they get signed and drop another album to sell out 300-500 cap venues and tour with much bigger bands, is the ideal. If they can keep this momentum going they’ll be like Paramore and pushing the edge of mainstream rock music without having to deal with the baggage of being celebrities which is the total sweet spot.

 

But I’d also be stoked to be Lung, where my label doesn’t get involved much, we tour successfully every other month selling our own merch and booking most of our own tours through non Live Nation venues, making a couple hundred per member most shows, and pay the bills when not on tour with teaching lessons / booking other bands / working in studios etc

If there’s one thing I’ve learned following the thread today, it’s that the idea of being a touring musician, or really anyone trying to make it via art sounds absolutely dreadful to me and I really appreciate my cushy office job and lack of a dream lol

On the flip side, imagine almost every day you come to work being fun and most of your job when you’re home being to write more music that will be fun to share haha. It’s definitely a tradeoff though, you’re not gonna become a homeowner off music unless you’re incredibly lucky. But also no one is making you do it forever. Perfectly acceptable to learn a trade when you’re done touring and go back to stable day job life

it’s a lot of work and it’s not a lot of money but for me I feel a spiritual happiness when I get to make art and travel without a job or a boss getting in the way

For sure. I’m just going off of how far they’ve gotten with, only two albums and only one that was put out on a label with reach. Their early stages as a band are very promising, a good chunk of the media is paying attention to them, and they’re touring with great bands that are a great fit for who they appeal to. So many of their shows on every tour sell out even the weekday ones.
