I think we also may be biased by the fact that when we were teenagers finding out about new pop punk bands or whatever was exciting and felt like learning what the “cool kids” are up to.

There was a “golden age” of the AP music forum, where people started talking about all kinds of music not just scene stuff, and that was how I discovered which “classic” artists I really like and also how I discovered a lot of the niche punk, post hardcore, alt/indie etc bands that influenced my music taste now.

Unfortunately that also came with a lot of people being pretentious af about music and talking down to people who enjoy the scene stuff AP’s news cycles were built around. I actually prefer that chorus is more relationship oriented. We can still share music with each other but the NFL thread especially got so much better when it started operating more like a family of folks who’ve been interacting online for 15 years and less like a fraternity with a social order / hierarchy
