Lou Anarumo was talked about as one of the best defensive coordinators in the league for two or three years up until this year. Maybe this year is an indictment on his coaching, but I'm willing to believe it says more about the lack of talent on the roster on defense than it does of him. He'll likely be scapegoated and I wouldn't be surprised if he lands on his feet and finds success as a DC elsewhere

My issue with blaming talent is its basically the same set of starters AND the depth players have improved.

 

Also worth remembering that he was getting some head coach buzz after the 2022 season. I don't remember who besides the Cardinals that he was linked to, but thought it was worth mentioning.

 

But starters don’t perform the exact same year over year. Defense, famously volatile

 

Honest question, who has improved on that side of the ball? And have they improved enough to make it worth moving on from the veterans that they have moved on from?

 

They spent a first round pick on a edge rusher last year who gave them just three sacks as a rookie and a grand total of zero (0) sacks this season

 

4 defensive players went right after Myles Murphy and I don’t think any of them would be an improvement for Cincinnati lol

It’s 100% the bengals way. Let good players go because you don’t want to pay them, draft poorly because you don’t know how to replace them.

Frankly them getting burrow and chase was a miracle lol

 

Myles Murphy and Joseph Ossai have both been playing better. McKinley Jackson and Kris Jenkins are rookies that have been performing well lately

 

I'll take your word for it on Murphy, but he should consider sacking the quarterback one time this season

 

Yeah that's the issue with the secondary for sure. CTB has been pretty good but the rest of the secondary has been all over the place
