Steelers pass defense is capable of being elite but they get really out of their bag when they can’t stop the run

 

I’m currently watching the game even tho I already know what happened

Lamar is incredible. Josh Allen is too but I think it’s a no brainer Lamar has been even better / more consistent EVERY game

 

Also there was a really weird moment on the second ravens touchdown where Tom Brady acted like it’s the CBS fault Bateman got behind him. Is he just dumber as an analyst than a QB or what?

It was clearly cover 2, Pitt was calling a LOT of Cover 2 variations (sink / Buc) etc, which means its NOT the CB responsibility to cover the back corner of the end zone and he didn’t “take the cheese” by clamping down short, he was doing his assignment. The safety, who is responsible for half the end zone in that situation, got caught staring inside and didn’t flip his hips outside till Bateman made his cut. It seemed to me like he was trying not to get beat on a post like Likely did for the first touchdown, but he had help inside, Steelers called a “Buc” Cover 2 that drops the LB deeper for exactly that reason, to take away the post. He should’ve prepared for the outside cut / corner route as his primary responsibility. QBs love it when all they have to do to score is throw to the back pylon, they can make that throw in their sleep if they’re good

just very very strange to me that TOM BRADY somehow mis-analyze an obvious cover 2 call, he never would’ve misread cover 2 in his career lol

I genuinely think it was playcalling, they tried too hard to stop Lamar from running and the Ravens did everything else lol. Cover 2 is great against zone read & great for containing QBs when they wanna roll out, but the Ravens have a lot of options to beat Cover 2 - between Derrick Henry / Tyler Linderbaum making it almost impossible to hit your B-gap run fits when your LBs drop at the snap, and Lamar actually having outside weapons to throw to now so he doesn’t have to scramble to flank the defense. There were also times the EDGE player responsible for not getting flanked sold out to chase Lamar, and left a void for Henry and Lamar smartly handed it off

 

I also think it was very smart of the Ravens to draw up plays for Lamar to throw it into the end zone before they even got into first and goal, they were getting aggressive immediately when they got into scoring range. I wanted my Henry touchdowns for fantasy lol.. but objectively speaking, last Steeler game Henry got owned multiple times in short yardage even though he was ripping off chunks on early downs. They basically didn’t let Watt and Heyward dictate whether or not they were going to score and put that pressure on the Steelers’ safeties and LBs moving backward instead

 

Was hearing multiple times in the lead up to the Eagles game last week that the Steelers pass defense is Very Bad
