Every time my partner talks about doordashing I genuinely think that food service apps’ current model should be illegal

I would happily give up doordash being a thing if it means people aren’t making a net income of like $4-$5 an hour after gas and car maintenance is accounted for

it’s mind blowing they consider that “tipped income”. That’s like saying Starbucks workers are “tipped income” and don’t get minimum wage. Getting a $3 tip on 10% of the orders you do is not “income”. Doordash 100% should be paying minimum wage all the time and not adjusting it down when you get tipped - and if they can’t be in business with that model then they should go out of business.

it’s not even run by people. AI is your boss when you Doordash. The only people overseeing the company is investors that are somehow expecting a 10x return on an industry that relies on paying slave wages and not offering ANY gas or mileage compensation to do so.

 

Like if a ballot was on the measure to outlaw tipped income in general and force every company to pay an actual wage on top of the tips, I would vote yes 10,000 times out of 10,000, and if that means the death of UberEats and Doordash and some shitty restaurants that shouldn’t be in business anyway, so be it

 

i feel bad because there are real people trying hard to make money by driving for those companies but i simply refuse to use them anymore.
