So my new job is in the mortgage business, so housing trends basically dictate everything in my life now. And Charlotte is very much #1 with a bullet on the "this place is rapidly growing" in terms of housing costs. Literally just sat on a webinar with our CEO and two economists who went "ooooof" when asked about affordable housing in Charlotte. So when I saw 680 I didn't bat an eye.

one of the bigger floor plans in our community one street over went for 875 lol. like, it’s considerably bigger. but 680 is nothing here. it also won’t go for 680 unless they meet one sort of “hopeful” contingency that we’re setting that might make us more willing to take a bit less money on a deal

 

I think I'd like the idea of having a whole backyard setup with a fire pit and all that, but every time we hang out in our yard now on the little patio we built I'm just like "it's hot. There's bugs. The sun is in my eye."

I would like a house near my current town, but unfortunately house prices have skyrocketed to the point where even with making well over 100k off the sale of our condo, our mortgage would still be 4k per month to live in this town. And then we can’t afford daycare if that happened (if a child appeared)

We could buy in NH, but because Musk/Trump are forcing federal workers to go in 5 days a week (unless she’s laid off) we can’t really move 45 minutes away because she’s not gonna want to commute 1+ hour each way 5 days a week.

So we’re just stuck on what to do

nah. since we are building the new house and it won’t be ready until june/july we are hoping to draw up a rent back agreement where the new buyer lets us rent the house from them until our new construction is ready.
