I should also be clear that my argument wasn’t “charlottes economy can’t justify those prices” but rather “I personally wouldn’t pay more for a city that’s equally prestigious and entertaining as a resident who’s there to enjoy it”

Isn’t Charlotte a major tech hub now? That also explains the differences in prices you’re going to see vs. Baltimore, for better or worse. I wouldn’t say the two are equally prestigious at all

 

it’s also a major finance city with two of the three biggest nationwide banks headquartered here as well as sun trust/trust and ally but whatever lol this is stupid

 

I have a lot of commentary I'd like to share, having been particularly focused on the housing crisis across the east coast, as well as working in this industry, but frankly we're past the point of interesting conversation so I'd rather just ask ya'll

which being a finance city kind of sucks lol and isn’t really a “good” thing but it helps make a city objectively bigger than another

 

Yeah, was gonna say, not so much tech as finance, but it also means lots of young people with money to burn and no free time, so lots of money spent on real estate vs a normal economy

 

Right, I don’t actually think these things are better for most working people in Charlotte, it just objectively “is what it is.”

 

it has had a recent tech boom too but not to the extent obviously of an austin or even park city recently but it has been growing in that regard. still definitely a finance city though.

 

also got a huge med school in the middle of the city that just opened that is bringing a ton of people in with two large hospital chains with tons of research based here not to mention two of the nation’s biggest/highest regarded public universities within a three hour drive. an american airlines. major education, air travel and medical hub as well.

 

charlotte is also nascar central and home to many boutique shops. not surprised that city is surging

 

not that baltimore doesn’t have the DC airports close by. that’s part of what my point was. baltimores biggest benefits as a city come from its proximity to another bigger city.

 

i always forget about nascar lmao that’s true too
