I have a friend like Mark who I'm genuinely so sick of for this very same behavior.

 

Mark seems like a good guy imo

He honestly does seem nice when he's not playing into the thread (which I get why he does but it gets excessive sometimes but also we all do) but he's also a Yankees fan which offsets that

 

I think more and more as mental health becomes less a serious topic, and more of a meme, and phrases like "triggered" and "Putting your mask on first" and "protecting your peace" continue to be abused beyond recognition, what we've really done is just stylized being an inconsiderate jerk.

I'm not digging at Mark at this point by the way, no idea what's actually happening there. But just this weird idea nowadays where there's no value in putting someone else before you anymore is gross to me.

Like, I wish I knew how to better phrase it, but I feel like for a long time there was an immense amount of pressure on people to ignore what they want out of life, and focus on what others want. And that's terrible and lame, but I think now there's been a swing to the other direction in such a way where we've made being a selfish jerk in fashion.

 

its kinda funny you say this because i was sort of thinking about this but in a slightly different way earlier today, like, i think what you said is true, but i think a lot of it is because of how 'trendy' and 'funny' it is to at least feign being miserable these days. like yeah LOL everythings awful and the world is on fire why even get out of bed LMAO - like, i want to individually kick every single person in the knees who has posted some sort of "omg today is the 93rd day of january" kind of meme, stop going out of your way to make everrryyytthiinng seem miserable. it is a little hard to take people seriously sometimes when its so hard to actually discern when someone is actually having a hard time or are they just trying to get the Lols on instagram and twitter and chorus.FM

 

You're both right because my instinct was to post "didn't realize my therapist is posting right now"

 

But for real I think there just needs to be some kind of balance and as much as we make jokes about it I think the "boys club" thing rings a bit true sometimes especially as we end up encouraging that shit from each other and can't express genuine love and appreciation a lot of the time and have to layer it in tons of irony (like the Ethel Cain post too). Does feel like it comes from the general idea of men not being able to be expressive towards other men or whatever

 

I need to get back to therapy. I had to take a brief pause because of the new job and everything, but shit has been rough the last few weeks.

 

Randall and I talk about that a lot because he does a bad job playing into the bits and just wants to be a genuine person most of the time and while I like playing into the bits a lot more I do have a bit of that in me too

 

Now would be such a bananas time for someone to come in with a "Play into DEEZ"

 

Just ranting not targeting cuz I do think it's something that's been on a lot of people's minds lately, I mean Josh just talked about how much shit is annoying him in here and I'm sure some of it stems from that
