Hawaii is part of the US but feels like it’s own place because it was and then we stole it for a military base.

 

That is true, and correct, and if her argument wasn't literally "well, it's not really part of the United States." I'd probably have ignored it and not remembered it 10 years later lol

 

Technically depending on the island it can very much feel like studying abroad - but I doubt the University of Hawaii is putting students on Moloka’i or Ni’ihau unless they’re living among and studying tribes for anthropology haha

Even this argument would have been fine with me. It was her continuously arguing that she left the country that is where she lost me.

 

UH campuses are only on the Big Island (in its largest city Hilo) and on Oahu (the most urbanized one with Honolulu on it) so yeah not really “studying abroad” haha, those areas feel like the Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico

 

Honolulu tbh is comparable to some California cities

The wall gives you extra head support sleeping. Pillow there and you’re golden. Also, the view is great, looking out the window with headphones on screams “don’t bother me”, and you don’t have to wake up from your nap to let someone else go to the bathroom. You also aren’t gonna have to make sure your leg stays out of the aisle.
