At best this was a misunderstanding and they had the wrong aircraft, at worst, a situation where the helicopter has done this maneuver so many times that they got complacent or they just straight up lied. I think it would have been difficult for them to do it on purpose, with two other people in the helicopter, and dual controls.

I am curious what the helicopter in-aircraft communications sound like, but I would be shocked if that ever sees the light of day publicly.

I do understand the skepticism for sure though, especially with the military being involved. Hard to trust anything they say 100%. I really do think this was just a tragic misunderstanding/mistake by the helicopter crew though.
