Taxes are easy when you’re broke you just sail through TurboTax, say no to almost every single question, and you get money at the end lmao

Idk what Dave’s talking about. Two kids now, two credits. Just don’t make weird ass choices on your withholdings, and bada bing bada boom - refund.

We had to do some funky shit when we thought we were buying the new house, and that's making things super fun and complicated.

Honestly, if its gonna sit in your fridge or whatever and ferment, its probably gonna turn out just fine. Its when you need faster rise that it can get f'd up. One of the best recipes I had was basically a minimal mix dough you let sit in the fridge for 48hrs.

I miss this so much. Going to the grocery store and grabbing like 6 of those at a time, tossing it in the fridge the night before and having a solid pizza by dinner time. I make all my own dough now and its better, but, if its 2pm and I havent made it, its such a crap shoot if it rises in time

Taxes as a self-employed person, buying and selling a house, and moving states for half the year...that SUCKED.

Being in one state all year is super easy, thankfully

We have the sale of vested, but not purchased employee stocks and a 401k cash out that's really what's causing trouble.

“Starter home” is a term which needs to die.

Of course, building them by the thousands (including townhomes) would actually be the best outcome. But sadly there's no money in that, apparently

You probably should actually do this, in case you're being facetious.

I guess I dont know how it works for bands, and if they follow similar rules, but most of this you can do as self-employment already.

I sold all my camera gear to myself when I started up (with the knowledge I cant really use it for personal stuff), there's writeoffs for office/practice space, Id be curious how much of your travel you could write off, etc

I saw a post of a realtor saying “perfect starter home” in the town next to me and it’s an average at best 3 bedroom for 715k.

Who the fuck is paying 4500-5k monthly for their mortgage after dropping 140k+ down payment as their first home. Fuck off with that realtors

For example, last year I moved from MD to Iowa (of which the mileage I drove is a writeoff for all homeowners). I had to drive from IA to Boston for a job and back shortly thereafter, which I did because the mileage exemption is hilarious better than writing off flying (and I could swing down to my home in MD as part of the process, but not write that off).

As a business, again stuff you then cant use personally, you get like 30% off most gear come tax time too. Do you use any mixing software or, hell, the laptop you use to do any tracking...percentages of that can be write-offs (you gotta estimate how much is personal vs business). Ive got a 5x10 piece of my basement that is all my camera gear, work hard drives, etc, thats a nice little writeoff.

Well, I should say Worcester, not Boston. Also, was a truly insane trip. Left Monday from Iowa at 7am, made it all the way to Syracuse. Got to Worcester tues afternoon to film (from like 2-4pm). Woke up the next morning, played a bunch of disc golf, filmed 2-4pm again Wednesday, and then was trying to decide if I was gonna go to Blood and Guts at TD Garden (but instead drove 7hrs all the way to my house). Was home by 11pm Thursday....and that included a canoe coming off my car 8hrs into the drive home and having to leave it in middle of nowhere Ohio for a buddy to pick up.

But I paid 0 tax on that job, because like 1800 miles at 70c/mile writes off a LOT of taxes.

God if I could write off my practice space and travel expenses that would be so ridiculously ideal lol. Next year I’d get enough taxes back to record another album lmao
