when dad retired from the military, the most logical career moves given his resume' was to work for government agencies and for companies that sold planes and navigation systems etc to the military. So obviously the DC metro area has TONS of high paying jobs like that. We moved to Lexington Park, MD near the PAX river Navy base at first, in the summer between my 10th and 11th grade years, and I hated southern Maryland, like hated it. Wanted to go back to Jax.

But when i started getting accepted to colleges it became apparent the closest I'd be able to be to home while still getting a degree from a top 50 school was Gainesville. I went there and visited UF and honestly did not like it, felt overwhelmed by the idea of going to college in a very insulated town in the middle of NOWHERE. I liked UMD's campus a lot more and loved that it was only a few miles from the DC line and loved that it was close enough to come home on weekends & play my piano and my amps.

After leaving college I could not afford DC area rent, so after bouncing around a bit in Maryland suburbs (and one year of living in the mountains of VA just to try it out), I discovered downtown Baltimore is actually the cheapest part of central (non-rural) Maryland and moved there and LOVED it, it was my first time living "in" a city and I realized thats what I enjoy most. Only moved out for circumstantial reasons.

And when I moved out, between money issues and dropping out of college and wanting to get away from toxic friendships and my longtime bassist leaving the band etc, I decided to go back home to Jax cause it was cheap (I had a whole house for $900 a month). It was a whole thing about, I still know people active in the music scene there, it'll be easier to get ahead in music in a smaller city, If i can afford a *house* now I can practice these drums I just bought and record loud electric guitar at home and be a one man band if i have to. It was also when I met @CarpetElf and we became real close friends, we both were having issues at home and wanted to move at the same time so we did it.

fast forward 4 years, Jacksonville is Jacksonville and the novelty wore off and I realized Florida's not as great as i thought it was when I was a kid lol. I tried moving to Atlanta with Elf, the pandemic forced us to move out less than a year later, I came back to UMD to finish my degree cause what else am I gonna do during the pandemic, and naturally the same thing happened - couldn't afford DC anymore, moved to Baltimore, and now it's like "why did I ever leave I love it here" lol

I don't regret moving back to Jax at all though. i did exactly what I went there to do -
-learned drums and bass in my house and now I'm pretty solid at both, (also got good at using effects pedals on guitar)
-learned how to promote shows - what works and what doesn't in terms of drawing people,
-got plenty of live show experience including headlining shows that drew over 100 people,
-went on multiple tours cause I could work in a restaurant and still afford to do all that,
-made touring connections that I still have to this day that are still helping me get booked and housed,
-recorded and released my first official EP,
-got my music covered by local media networks

& this recent tour proved to me all that stuff mattered and didn't just fade away with time
