There was some speculation Jags/Coen could pull the same last minute shenanigans with Spytek but the deal is done. Think Ray Agnew and Ian Cunningham could be people they’re eyeing.

I love that Aaron Glenn got his opportunity, very important that another black coach gets to throw his hat in the ring. but I gotta tell ya… I don’t see it happening.

From what I’ve seen, yes injuries this year and all that, but the Lions defense even before that has been subpar and at times absolute dog shit despite being loaded with young talent. And a lot of that young talent didn’t pan out (Okudah esp comes to mind considering Glenn was a former All-Pro CB, that secondary in general has been very sus knowing they got a guy who was really good at that position coaching them). It’s been the thing holding them back from succeeding since they became good under Campbell, offense has been having to carry that shit 90% of the time outside of a big Hutchinson sack / FF or some shit. They don’t have the luxury of “Goff sucked and had a very off night but we gutted out a win” that other playoff teams often have.

I could see him being a players coach and having that fire and that connection from a team culture standpoint but I just do not see why his resume gets him hired before Brian Flores for example, who might have his warts but is a sure bet for having an awesome defense wherever he goes. Glenn can’t guarantee that and has zero experience coaching offense so who knows what that side will look like.

Ironically if it wasn’t the same team he just got fired from I might consider Saleh over Glenn haha. But now that they hired him i do hope they’re patient (they won’t be) cause the Pats did Jerod Mayo dirty and now his name isn’t even being mentioned in this next HC cycle. Feel like I don’t even know if Mayo is good or not cause a rebuilding year for the Pats with a rookie QB & rookie weapons was gonna look like that no matter what

 

Glenn is gonna have to be a Dan Campbell type guy and make VERY good hires from the top down. But yeah, he's a HUGE player guy. Very intelligent too. Dude worked his way up from a scouting assistant, he knows his shit.

Also mulling over the Rooney Rule convo and is there a Rooney Rule for assistant coaches or no? I feel like that should probably exist before a head coach Rule, you know?

 

I doubt it but it’s probably also one of those things where the NFL is fine with black coaches being good as long as they’re in a “yes sir / no sir” position when it comes to the decisions and they aren’t the head hancho with leverage. Plenty of black middle managers, not a lot of black CEOs, sort of thing.

 

The funny part is because of this there are more black "CEOs" because they've been able to work their way up in front offices. Seems like becoming a GM is easier somehow

 

Okudah was drafted by the old regime. He just stinks and was always hurt, not much Glenn could’ve done there.

Glenn is maddening in there are games where his game plan was genuinely perfect and it felt like we would turn the corner, and then there are games where he would throw out everything he had just learned previously and revert back to things that just didn’t work. He worked wonders this year with the amount of injuries, and I thought he improved in basically all aspects this season given the players he had.
