I applied online and they told me I had to come to a physical office within 45 days of the application to complete the process. I don't know why.

Do you think I didn't try to do this without going to a government office

 

I also have an expired passport I need to renew and thanks to noted nerd @dylan I now know I can just fill out a form and send in a wad of cash or something to renew it.

Yeah I got my social security card and birth certificate sent to me by applying online because my dementia ridden mom had those and likely left them in Alabama when she lived there or even just tossed em before she left Texas
