the only material FAs we are losing are Ricard, Mekari, and Stanley so I feel good about the team coming back. Not much cap space so a restructure for some guys will likely be necessary.

Mark will probably be one since we have the leverage of releasing him for big savings. I assume Lamar will be too just because his is the biggest deal and gives us flexibility.

If we keep those first three, the biggest holes are pass rush, CB, and WR. Unfortunately, all premium priced positions, but I trust EDC.

Hasn’t that been a case for Baltimore and Pittsburgh for a while though, haven’t they tried with Harbaugh and Tomlin OC/DC picks for a while and had similar results? I dunno, I could be wrong but I feel like they’ve had a rotating cast there for a decent amount of time

If Doug Pederson taught me anything, it’s that hoping your HC will come to his senses and hire better help is a lost cause lol

 

I understand this and I don’t have a good answer for you because HC is just so tricky. I mean, everyone has been salivating over Ben Johnson for years now, but who knows if he’d actually make for a good HC. But I don’t think teams should be afraid to take a swing.

I keep using the Eagles as an example, but they fired their only super bowl-winning head coach for the Colts OC after a season where no one was clamoring about Philip Rivers and the Colts offense in 2020. Despite how I feel about him, he’s been an overall success for the Eagles.

 

There’s too much nepotism and ego in the NFL, HC’s will pick some yes-man at OC/DC who doesn’t piss them off in meeting rooms over somebody who can challenge their habits and take them outside of their comfort zone to be better

I do considering it’s just Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. Both have been solid/good players so far, but there’s a reason why this team traded for Diontae Johnson, waived him, then claimed him again.

 

Steelers ownership doesnt meddle. They wont fire tomlin. They’ll let his contract run out if anything. So just trying to think of things to do within those parameters. The truth is the Steelers won’t be good for a long while.

I don’t think they need a Higgins or similar #1, but another productive receiver at a level somewhere between Bateman and Zay would be perfect. Shopping that second tier of receivers and sliding Bateman down to wr3 would be perfect.
