I get it. Drops certainly aren’t nothing. I just don’t think I would make an important decision like cutting Mark Andrews based largely on drops.

I’m not suggesting that that’s what you’ve been saying. Just trying to get my thoughts out there for the people of chorus dot fm to see

 

like there have literally been games where Lawrence’s WRs dropped 6 passes but they only tallied 2 or 3 drops and that makes me think they only count it if you’re basically wide open

 

But for a go to guy? The expectation should be, even if you’re getting hit, if it hits you in the hands and the defender never gets a hand on the ball or your arm, you should catch it. Bar is absolutely that high if we’re talking about a pass catcher who would otherwise be called elite

I think multiple things are true:
- Josh likely didn’t watch as much Ravens and Randall and doesn’t realize how many crucial moments Andrews hasn’t shown up in
- Randall vastly prefers Isaiah Likely which provides confirmation bias towards wanting to get rid of Andrews
- Likely is good
- Andrews is good
- Lamar needed to show up more than he did too
- Lamar is good

 

Best case scenario Andrew's gets an extension this offseason that reduces his cap hit next year. I will be elated if they manage to extend him. If it comes down to it though, I would rather use that money (his cap savings next year) to resign Ronnie Stanley and Pat Ricard and go with Likely + Kolar at TE.

 

I don’t want to get rid of harbs either. I think he’s done a great job coaching this team, especially in reinventing the team after the mid 2010s slump. He’s shown an ability to rethink his coordinator hires and nailed it with monken. I love being competitive year in and year out and feel like once you’re in the playoffs it’s always takes a bit of luck and we just haven’t received it. Keep throwing darts, eventually we will hit.

Plus, I think that the continuity in the franchise is a huge reason for our success. 30 years and only three coaches, two gms, bisciotti being a great owner.

I do think both the Ravens and Steelers would benefit from a change at HC. At some point, it just keeps feeling like groundhog day. I get the uncertainty of what’s on the other side, but what juice is there left to squeeze with those guys at this point?

the drops / fumbles are just a catalyst for what should happen anyway because they already have his much younger replacement on deck and he still has 2 years left on a fourth round rookie deal. Seems like a smart move to help keep the rest of the young core together

 

I WOULD like them to have a consistently well performing WR first too though before moving on from Andrews (it’s not Bateman)

 

There is another head coach that works for a team on the west coast that I may or may not feel similarly about, but who’s to say

 

who is available though. You get rid of tomlin you better be bringing in someone with high potential and not Robert saleh or some other retread. I don’t know who the up and comers are that haven’t hit the head coach interview circuit yet.

 

Eh, don’t know yet if I *prefer* Likely, but I do know Lamar can be just as productive with him and I also know he’s younger and cheaper, which teams usually prefer for a good reason

 

The big question is who will ever be available? At a certain point you just have to enter the market and find out cuz that’ll always be a big question mark

You don’t wanna accidentally tie yourself to a Mayo cuz you didn’t do due diligence

 

Tomlin is a good “executive” or whatever. High vibes, manages the team well. What the Steelers really need are a real OC and DC.

 

I get that Likely has been good when given opportunities, but…as a fan of a team who went from having two verifiably good TEs to just one and fans wishcasting every year for a good TE2 to eventually move on from Goedert…I would keep that tandem around for about as long as possible until the situation becomes untenable. The Ravens’ persistent issues at WR should make them more inclined to keep Andrews around as well.

 

The receivers being a LOT BETTER than they were before is a big part of me thinking they could move on and be fine. I absolutely would never have said cut Andrews two years ago. But even though neither Bateman or Flowers is a true 1, both of them together is still pretty good weapons considering how much of a step forward Bateman took this year
