    1) Kirk made his break plenty fast, he had no hesitation in his route. If that’s who Trev was targeting he put it way too far in front. If I saw Kirk try to double fake the CB and slow down the route then I’d blame him but he didn’t.

    2) BTJ was gonna be WIDE open deep on this play, and that’s more of what I criticize here. I get that BTJ’s job is to clear out the safety so Kirk can be open and it’s not the POINT of the play to target him with a moon ball - but DAMMIT if that safety stays low and sits on that post route then you’re damn right I expect Trevor to see that and take the damn easy points instead of throwing a PICK. Should’ve been 7 for us, not giving GB an easy 7. He locked onto his first read and didn’t see the safety blatantly ignoring BTJ to go for an aggressive pick

This why I don’t trust Twitter analysts, all those words and mental gymnastics just to miss the more obvious thing that happened

Randall he is is a writer that used to play football at UCF as a CB, he is not a “twitter analyst”

Take two seconds to look at his bio

Just watch the clip, there was no way Kirk was getting there that fast, and the safety who picked him off was facing forward with BTJ about to run right by him. That was a Trevor mistake. We don’t need to make excuses for him this hard anymore.

Capable of the same level analysis as the majority of Twitter analysts cause, and imma say my catch phrase again, the research is out there

A former cornerback providing a breakdown of the play design might be considered research

Sure but did you by chance watch the play again with what I said in mind, or are you just assuming it’s invalid because I didn’t play college CB at (checks notes) UCF

Yes, and I watched it with what he said as well. And I am absolutely going to defer to the person who is more knowledgeable on this

He’s not even saying it’s not Trevor’s fault! He just saying that there are multiple aspects to blame including scheme and route running. It seems like running a play where a WR has to run their route perfectly to have the timing right for their preferred receiver for that play be open is flawed since it has since resulted in two interceptions, it’s a anticipation throw.

Idk I just think blaming Kirk is short sighted if we don’t examine

    A) what exactly he did in the route to make Trevor miss him - the other two examples of this INT, Gabe Davis and Duvernay flattened the route and you could clearly see it was not run like a post should be run. Kirk, in this instance, does not do this nor does he hesitate. Not much film evidence that he wasn’t where he was supposed to be and Trev didn’t just overthrow him into double coverage

    B) what other options Trevor had. Regardless if we can galaxy brain a way Kirk somehow messed up that route, there’s still the issue of, nobody was keeping up with BTJ. The safety’s hips were the wrong way and no one else was even close. Why force a very difficult anticipation throw when there’s an easier one behind him for a literal 70 yard touchdown. Definitely a “caught the safety biting / cheating, throw it over the top of him” situation and even average QBs should be expected to see big play opportunities like that when their 4.3 speed non-primary read gets THAT much deep leverage. Instead the safety read HIM like a book and got away with cheating shallow and got the pick.

Plus that's a dumb play to call from the endzone

Was there anything new on BTJ’s injury today or is the first real practice tomorrow?

BTJ was only open because Xavier read the throw. If Xavier doesn't read the throw, he stays with BTJ and he's not open and we're now complaining about Kirk being open. That's what we call perfectly executed coverage
