Last two days of tour were ROUGH but that’s tour for you. First of all, our bassist had an issue a year ago where he was pulled over driving a friends car and it had drugs in it - he thought he took care of everything he needed to take care of, but the probation officer called him angry after seeing he was out of state and he had to fly home. Thankfully he’s not getting arrested cause his brother in law works for an airline and got him a ticket home immediately. But that meant after the long ass day of driving on ice, we got only like 4.5 hours sleep and the next day had to drive him straight to the airport before going to South Bend.

Also when we slid off the road a sway bar got knocked slightly loose. We were noticing a crunching noise and thought it was ice crunching under the wheel housing, but it was causing the car to vibrate at higher speeds once we got on clear roads. After taking it to Subaru they determined the sound was a legit problem. I’m very very thankful it wasn’t something worse / a more time consuming and costly repair like a CV axle or a tie rod / ball bearing issue. But losing $200 of tour money sucks lol.

This all compounded my stress and exhaustion too. We effectively lost a couple hours on our commute for the second day in a row. The 6 hour drive from Chattanooga to Indianapolis took like 10 cause of the winter weather. Then because of the airport detour in the snow and then having to go to Subaru once we got to clear roads, the 3 hour drive from Indy to here was like 7 hours. This takes away our “unwind when we get to town” time, and we had to go straight to the show and load in, sound check, set up merch, didn’t even have time to meet everybody before the show started.

Because of that slide happening when my drummer was driving, and me driving perfectly fine the rest of the way through that winter storm, we’ve both agreed I’ll be the driver in adverse conditions, but of course that means I’m not getting any car naps either at a point in tour when I’m getting tired and I need them lol. It’s easy to slip on ice so I don’t hold it against him, but I also am no longer willing to put my new car’s well being in someone else’s hands, I trust my throttle control more.

other lame stuff also happened like losing my phone charger, my guitar Jack came undone and we have to now go to Guitar Center otw to Chicago to get it fixed, and freaking out last night cause I temporarily lost the debit card I that has access to our non-cash pay from tour lol. Thankfully it just slid under the seat where I couldn’t reach it until we got “home” to where we’re staying but for a minute there I was very frustrated cause I remembered taking it out at the toll plaza.

Shockingly though… I’m still having fun lol. Somehow, despite running on fumes sleep-wise, and that horrifying drive through an ice storm, and the surprise car and guitar maintenance and other unexpected expenses, and the bassist missing shows we were very excited to have him on… I’m having fun.

We’re about to get to the best part, playing in bigger Midwest cities for the first time, seeing Chicago today!! And the saving grace has been every single town has had an old friend of mine from my past DIY tours come hang out with us at the show and then offer us a comfortable space after (or at least find a friend who can). I’ve been touched and surprised at how long those connections can last. Someone I met in Columbus GA even texted me out of the blue about coming to that show and I thought he had moved to Montana and never came back lol. We’ve only needed one motel night so far and that’s because our Cincy show got cancelled.

@CarpetElf i saw Maxim (our Atlanta friend) in Columbus GA, he was back home… and I stayed with Audrey in NC, she just moved to Greensboro.

stop.drop.rewind, the band I’ve played big shows with in Baltimore recently, hooked us up with a friend here. A friend I met in the Pool Kids discord who has always liked my band housed us in Indianapolis. A friend of a musician I knew in Jacksonville who now lives in Harrisonburg housed us in Virginia.

And a friend from Tallahassee who has also been supportive of Terrain since 2016 and come to several of my shows, drove 2.5 hours to Jacksonville to see us and THEN let us stay at his house in Tally on the way to our next show. He even bought us breakfast!

None of these spots have felt like we’re sleeping on a hard floor a sketchy dirty couch, I’m too old to do that shit regularly anymore lol, it’s all been very hospitable

Disappointed with Ethel Cain’s new album/EP/release whatever you wanna call it.

What I adored of her last album was her incredible lyricism and vocals. And for this being like 90 minutes long … I wish we got more than like 5 collective minutes of that lol

I maybe didn’t pay attention before release of what this was gonna be so maybe on me haha

Wanted to add this for the Jets.

I just feel like they should look into trading their disgruntled stars for whatever they can get. With the shit the Sauce has said and the rumors that Wilson may request a trade this offseason…I just don’t see the point in keeping players around who have been open, to some degree, about not wanting to play for the Jets anymore

Might as well start reloading this offseason for 2026 and beyond
