Salt doesn’t do anything until the snow is done, especially if it starts as rain since it just washes it away. You’ll usually never see trucks pre salt roads

I saw some roads getting salted in my area on Friday and I was like “It is not expected to snow until Monday my guy”

 

Interesting. Maryland usually does pre salt roads when they’re expecting snow. At least major highways.

 

It’s very rare to see pre-salting in the Midwest, it’s usually done either first thing in the morning if it’s still snowing, or as soon as snow stops

salting the roads before a storm is useful only to prevent ice from forming, as salt prevents water from freezing as quickly. it does nothing to actually keep the roads safe DURING a storm.
