I've seen theories that the league is pushing the circular logos so that they eventually place them where the jersey ads go now, and then use bigger jersey ads. Woo, capitalism.

I really don't like the circular logos. Not only does the uniform shape rob teams of individuality, but the design elements they use in that space get watered down. Like Cleveland just using that C, or Toronto's use of the clawed ball in lieu of an actual raptor again.
