I think I'm well within my right to be highly suspicious of anything and everything Nico does from here on out. If you don't think he's considering trading that #1 for another older superstar, you're fooling yourself.

I think there's also a good chance they draft Flagg and he doesn't play a single game for them. Either trade him on draft night or in a few weeks/months like Andrew Wiggins

I still can’t believe last night happened. Literally there were 3 teams that if they had won the lottery would bring out the conspiracy talks….and ALL 3 jumped into the top 3. Just insane. Terrible.

I get the idea of tanking being bad for the sport and all that. But there will never be a way to get rid of it. There will always be certain teams that have very few options other than to hope for the better draft pick in a season. It’s just the way things work. Whether it’s because the team stinks or because they have a protected pick sent out and they need to make sure they’re within the protection. It will be there. Flattening the odds for the top pick doesn’t solve the issue. It just makes it harder to the teams in the dumps.

All 3 teams that jumped us last night tanked in their own way. Two actively avoided a playoff push (low chance of making it but they didn’t even try) and the other traded away a top 5 player and flamed out.

They were all rewarded. So I just don’t buy the argument that teams who tank don’t deserve to be rewarded. Because last night 3 teams were rewarded after not trying the last month of the season.

 

ending up with Harper or Bailey is a good consolation prize imo

 

It is amazing to think about: the mavs, sixers, and spurs all tanked for a better draft position instead of aiming for the play in. They got rewarded big time.

The Miami Heat’s play in victory earned them a round one ass-beating to a team that’s currently losing 3-1 in the next round

I think the NBA definitely needs to tweak things with the lottery. Losing/tanking will inevitably always be incentivized to some degree by virtue of a worse record giving you more ping-pong balls. So rather than trying to eliminate tanking in general, they should focus on trying to reduce repeat tanking. If a team tanks, but keeps dropping several spots in the lottery year after year, they're obviously going to have a harder time assembling a competitive roster which makes them think twice about tanking. Whether they adjust the odds so that the worst teams have markedly higher percentages, or just eliminate the lottery completely like in other sports, the current system isn't really de-incentivizing tanking.

 

Yeah, the lottery system was designed to try and curb tanking, and it has failed, so scrap it altogether imo and just do what the NFL does
