I don’t say that to completely knock Jokic. FWIW he’s one of my favorite players to watch ever and I’ve watched the second half of probably 25-30 Nuggs games this season, with this year being the least basketball I’ve watched in like a decade.

He’s a big boy and he has active hands so it’s impossible for him to be a nothing on defense, but he’s slow and does not jump and, like you said, tends to conserve energy through most of their games. He played 40min straight last night, and is capable of doing that routinely, so I understand he would prefer to never leave his feet as long as he lives if he can help it.

All that said, it’s confusing to see/hear everyone who defends him wave away the biggest deficiency in his game as a player when he plays the most important defensive position on the court. Like you said, his offensive burden is too large for it to totally matter, but every analyst with a podcast holds a 40yo Lebron to a higher defensive standard than they have ever held Jokic to, throwing out VORPS and DORPS to distract from an eye test that, frankly, stinks.

It doesn’t bother me until we get to the same MVP debate with him every year where he’s held up next to another player (Giannis, SGA etc) who’s having a statistically comparable offensive impact while being in another universe as a defender, then suddenly defense doesn’t matter. His offense is good enough to cede the defensive argument entirely without caveat and still make a perfect case for him, to be honest. It would even sound more credible lol

I like to clown on the 76ers as much as the next guy, but this is honestly getting to a pretty sad place. A premier talent that just can not possibly stay on the court.

I think advising him to get another arthroscopic surgery is little short-sighted right now.

 

I woke up combative today and I didn't mean for my words to be taken as an attack of another incredible player in SGA, or to come off as an extreme homer. I just get beyond frustrated that it seems like people still don't appreciate or respect Jokic's greatness (not directed at anyone in this thread) and I brought that in here!!!!!!!
