not sure how it's a farce to give the mvp to the best player, leading the league in scoring, on a team that could still win 70 games, and has had a playoff spot locked up for weeks

like yeah Jokic rocks but it's real homerism to act like SGA winning would be a farce lol come on max

Lol. Jokic is very easily the best player on the planet right now by a wide margin. His peak rn is rivaling the two people considered the GOATs. I am not saying he is better because he doesn’t and won’t ever have the rings argument in his favor, but you’re all witnessing what will likely be a top 5 basketball player of all time putting up the best statistical season of all time

 

so why isn't his team better?

 

Have you seen their roster? Lol. This is the same thing as asking why LeBron’s Cavs teams weren’t better his first stint.

The Thunder easily have the best team assembled this year, there is no question about it. This goes back to the same fucking thing every year, how do you define the MVP? The Nuggets wouldn’t sniff the playoffs without Jokic, the Thunder would still be a playoff team without SGA

 

So jokic should get rewarded because his GM sucks?

like you said it's the same argument every time. mahomes should win every mvp. belichick should have won every coach of the year

it's a narrative award and IMO the best player on the clearly best team that's statistically trending towards being one of the best regular season teams of all time should be rewarded!

 

I'd feel better about Jokic's chances if the Thunder weren't so far ahead in standings. 16.5 games is a lot, Denver might not finish top 3 if a few things go wrong. He's the best player in the world but I think SGA takes it just with the sheer dominance the Thunder have been having.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jokic won it tho, and if I had a vote I don't know what I'd do.

 

That's fair and you can have your opinion, but I disagree in the interpretation (and I have been very consistent on this for years, and not just regarding Jokic), but you also don't need to take it as an attack of SGA who is very, very, very, very good at the sport of basketball

Anyways it's not that serious and the outcome will have no effect on my life personally but I feel like I'm constantly taking crazy pills having to defend a top 10, arguably top 5 basketball player of all time
