in rhode island we're just lightly out of range for the boston over the air channel. most games are touch and go at best now.

 

@MidDave local thunder games are carried by bally sports/fanduel tv or whatever the hell streaming service it's on, unless they're national broadcasts on espn/abc tnt/tbs whatever

my choices to catch every thunder game are: have an actual cable/satellite package that carries bally sports oklahoma, or pay I think $20 a month for their streaming app that gives me access

nba league pass would be worth it IMO *if* it actually gave you access to your in market team but it doesn't. same thing with nfl sunday ticket

 

League Pass is kind of a scam if you want your local market teams. I got lucky that I'm finally outside of Mavs territory and could take advantage. Funny thing was when I got MLB League Pass or whatever it's called, I was still blacked out here IN HOUSTON. Just absolute lunacy.

 

I have a similar issue i've talked about in the mlb thread, I have no actual legal way to watch kansas city royals games. according to mlb tv's yearly packages, I'm "in market" for Kansas City, St. Louis, Dallas, and Houston. I can't sign up for Bally Sports Kansas City because I'm in Oklahoma, so I can only get Bally Sports Oklahoma, which doesn't carry Royals games.

it's absolutely bullshit

 

Stan Kroenke should be publicly shamed and ridiculed and forced to sell for not having two of his teams - the Avs AND the Nuggets - on local broadcast TV during their championship runs.

I blame the leagues as well. Can you imagine the stink both the NBA and NHL would have made if the Lakers/LA Kings weren't available on TV WHILE THEY WON A CHAMPIONSHIP

 

I think/assume it's old archaic rules to drive local attendance, because why pay for a ticket if you can watch at home? but that doesn't match what people do anymore

thunder attendance has been down this year even though they've obviously been dominant and I think it's because people can't just casually watch the games. it's too complicated to know everything I just explained

 

weren't they talking about reducing quarters to ten minutes? i could see them trying out two halves instead...

attendance is down because its unaffordable for people to go to live events anymore. i dont think it has much to do with the understanding of the sport. basketball games like baseball games are incredibly fun family friendly (for the most part unless people near you are screaming slurs) experiences but your average family of 3 or 4 is spending $500+ on a night in the stadium.

 

move em back to Seattle

 

I don't think OKC's attendance is very related to gameplay quality, I'm saying a lot of people here don't even realize they have a team that is probably the favorite to win the championship this year, there's just less awareness overall

 

The people running the show are big dumb idiots and afraid to take on legacy broadcast networks. You'll make even more money when your games are available to more people which is the only thing they care about, and the fact that they don't just do that is mind boggling

 

yeah and maybe there's an optics thing. like, hmm should i really take my family to this $500+ night to watch a bunch of millionaires play a game.

 

not convinced that's a huge chunk of it especially in deep red oklahoma. class issues don't seem to matter to people here!

 

favored to end at the top of the standings in the west. let's talk about this come playoff time bud..
