Gonna be hilarious when the Yankees still don’t make the playoffs next season.

I think he will come real close. Could see him signing a 12 or 13 year $480m deal. Idk if he hits $500m.

everyone wants to keep citing that he turned down $440m from the Nats to predict that he will see a $500m contract but context is important. The Nats are a scum franchise and backloaded the fuck out of that deal, his AAV would have been around 28-29m. He can be a $36 or $37m annually player by taking that same number over 12 or 13 years with no deferred money.

I didn’t realize he’ll barely turn 26 when he’s a FA. That’s just wild, gonna get a monster contract regardless

feels like this is one where his 2024 season is gonna dictate everything. if he's 2021 Juan Soto in his walk year then dudes getting 500m+ for sure, he'll be fucking just turned 26 next offseason. preposterously young.

if he's more like the last couple years then it's probably like 12/480 ya. (assuming Sho is 500+). he's still so good and so young though

I think the most likely outcome is Soto goes absolutely bananas in 2024 and has like a .290/.450/.600 season and bops 40+ with the short porch. Then if you're New York I feel like you kind of have to sign him longterm even if it's half a billion.

another thing to consider: say it's 13 years, well that Nats contract would have purchased two way more valuable years at ages 23-24 than one will now, where years 12 and 13 would be ages 37-38 I think. even a contract of equal length, equal money is a better deal now than it was then (if you forget about the market going up in the last year and half)

  19. So you’re saying bet $100 on Soto MVP

thats what woulda happened if this was 2004. luckily, if every yankees fan with an internet connection is to be believed, there's no shot they do that. we'll see

Soto is gonna hit like .222/.370/.450 for the first two months and get booed despite an .820 ops being well above league average

and then he’ll hit .335/.480/.650 for the rest of the season and get MVP votes

I don't really bet lol but if you can spare the money every spring that's about as good as it's gonna get. don't even care what the odds are. the potential for a 1.150 OPS season is extremely there still with Soto. and if he just doesn't entirely suck in the OF that year then, whoops, that's a 10 WAR season

Soto is the only hitter with a real shot of a .500 on base over a full season

literally getting on base half the time

real shot meaning like 1-2% yea haha but then again...not sure there's another guy in the league who I'd give better than like 0.05% odds of ever doing that
