murph i'm gonna try to follow baseball. what does this mean

 

posting is basically a transfer system for players to be eligible to come to the MLB from the NPB (basically Japan's MLB). a player is 'posted' as eligible to be negotiated with, and has 45 days to agree to terms with a team.

 

and if they don't I assume they just return to thieir japanese team?

 

in this context, Yoshinobu Yamamoto is the player coming over and is believed to be an MLB-ready ace pitcher.

its really their choice whether or not to be, i have not seen their name flying around much. he is pretty heavily expected to land with either the Mets or Yankees, but the Red Sox and Dodgers have also been linked.

I'm not a total idiot but I can only maybe name like 20 active baseball players. Don't totally understand all of the weird contract stuff (arbitration and whatnot) and I have no idea what actually goes into the strategy of a game aside from "this guy can throw well" and "this guy can hit well"

 

our local Triple A team is part of the Dodgers system but ew I don't want to root for them
