That’s funny I moved Elly to the lead off spot in my franchise in the Show and he killed it from there. That’s a solid move

I feel like the only teams with the prospect haul to pull off the Ohtani deal this season are also the teams that are philosophically against exhausting prospect capital for a monster trade like that.

Don't get me wrong, I've certainly seen too many prospects fail to be against prospect hugging. But two months rental of anybody, even prime roided out Bonds would do nothing for this team

I wouldn't be angry at any move really though, like I've said, Boone/Cashman era isn't winning anything. May as well go crazy

I'm not tryna start fights for no reason I swear haha but there's a difference between "would do nothing" and "wouldn't guarantee a 2023 WS appearance" and the latter is true while the former is not. And yeah none of those guys besides Schmidt are established big leaguers.

I also don't know how correct it is to assume Ohtani would pick x non-Dodgers west coast team over New York. The geographic reasons he'd like to be on the west coast are obvious but to the extent he ever thinks about self-mythologizing (which who knows) I'd have to think the pull of being literally Babe Ruth Pt. II has to be a pull...

This is super duper boring but I don't think Ohtani gets traded. I think a team has to have multiple top-tier prospects they're willing to part with and I'd think no team is going to do that unless they feel good about their playoff spot.

So here's all of the teams with a >50% chance of making the playoffs (FG) and even just a top-half farm system (BP):
    -Rays
    -Orioles
    -Brewers
    -Dbacks
    -Twins
    -Giants
    -Dodgers

I think it's fair to say that the first three teams are going to be philosophically opposed to parting with the quality and quantity of prospects that it would take to get Ohtani. No shot.

I'm not quite sure AZ is totally philosophically opposed but they're not gonna do it; they're on the upswing and wanna see their guys pan out I'd assume. Believe their system was pretty top-heavy going into the season too, so if you take out the dudes already on the active roster I'm not sure they have the prospects to make it happen anyway.

Now the Twins and Giants are interesting. MIN could choose to be the team that says "hey we're in a dogshit division let's ride and see what happens." Their system is deep but without as many marquee guys though so LAA would have to be okay taking an absolute ton of 55-60 FV guys instead of 2-3 truly elite prospects plus org filler guys. SF is less deep but has a few guys in the 55ish FV range at least; probably comes down to how much the Angels like dudes like Luis Matos and Marco Luciano.

So that leaves the only obvious trade partner as the Dodgers. And if you're the Dodgers why do you pay in prospects for a guy you're the clear favorite to acquire in three months using just cash? And why would you do so in a season where you're fielding your weakest team in a decade (at least by pythag record).

tl;dr Ohtani plays out the season as an Angel barring the emergence of an actual MYSTERY TEAM

    Fun must be always. Prestigious

I like how the angels owner won’t trade to the dodgers because he thinks we are a rival

but yeah he isn’t going to be traded at all, it isn’t worth the risk for any East coast teams to do that

Yeah at the end of the day I don't think he gets traded. Which would be dumb on the Angels part obv

    Great Googly Moogly Prestigious

You're not going to get a giant massive haul but you're still going to get some top tiered prospects....

Idk. If you're the Rangers, a move like this definitely puts you in WS contention. Plus, the rangers are in play for the next contract too...always good to build a relationship first.

The rays are of course a team that should but they won't. They're the genius franchise built on a myriad of prospects. They can afford a few to take a real stranglehold on being the top ws contender

Teams that should! Rangers, Rays. Yankees

I’d be over the moon if the rays traded some depth for a shot at a legendary deadline acquisition.

If the rays do it I just don’t want to lose Junior.

Neander said something on mlbs Sirius show the other day about having Stu’s full green light to do whatever move they want with the depth the rays have, but I just assume that means a couple smaller but hopefully impactful splashes. I want the full shamu splash zone move.

Wait now it’s a mistake not to trade a generational player for prospects instead of letting him walk and get a draft pick?

  20. I don’t think the trade deadline is gonna be exciting because too many teams are in contention
