Gomber, I hardly know him because I’ve never heard of him despite definitely hearing about him at least one other time when this trade was announced

this is a fire joke that only works on this site. Made me snort

  17. How do you think a guy who gives up a home run about every sixth fly ball is doing pitching half his games in Coors

I’d say I hope you’re gonna tell me he’s a 80+ percent ground ball guy

I don’t think it’s really the same or fair.

Bryant’s thing has literally just been health. Outside of 2020 (covid shortened season + injuries), when on the field, he’s still been a good hitter and his positional flexibility has allowed the Cubs, Giants, and Rockies to move things around as needed.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he posted a 125 OPS+ while playing 40 games each at 3 different positions

It’s just a matter of staying healthy. Belli’s fall was caused by injuries but he’s never fixed his swing once everyone figured out how to beat him. Yelich has had back issues but he hits the ball into the ground way way way too much.

Kris Bryant doesn’t have swing issues just health issues

  22. Nope lol 43% GB over his career. If you guessed his era starts with a 5 you'd be mostly right although he's off to an even worse start so far this year

It's not his fault but also he was subpar in a pitchers park for us in 2019, his only real season before the trade. The damn rockies. Beat us tonight tho!

  23. I think the other part of the story is also that KB's elite years were maybe outlier 80th percentile type outcomes for him so people set their expectations too high, especially as he was so young. That's maybe what he has in common at least with Bellinger. Still though if all 3 cost the same you take KB in about two seconds without thinking about it.

I think even comparing Yelich to Bellinger isn't that fair tbh. Other guys have gone from good hitter->amazing elite hitter->mediocre-to-average hitter from their age 27 to 31 seasons. But we've all been trying to think of a comp for Bellinger for like three years now and it literally does not exist

ROY at 21, MVP at 23, to non tender candidate at 25 is absurd. Genuinely unprecedented

I remember Sam Miller writing about what if we’re seeing a good career become a hall of fame career with Yelich becoming otherworldly in 2018-19. I was all in believing but then he stopped hitting homers lol

How Christian Yelich became a future Hall of Famer in 400 plate appearances
