A few years ago people would say the stats don’t count until Mike Trout leads in WAR. Now I say the stats don’t count until Eric Hosmer is top three in ground ball % and bottom 3 in fly ball %. (We’re not there yet but it’s the rest of the league that needs to stabilize, his batted ball profile already looks very familiar lol)

 

I always use Memorial Day as when I start to really pay attention to stats/team records.

i know there are players who have homers on the first pitch they've seen, including a few with grand slams on the first pitch they ever saw (Daniel Nava comes to mind) but i never thought about pitchers who have given up bombs on their first career pitch
