Thought Henry in a Dallas uniform would have an elite aesthetic, but yeah him as a Raven is right there.

@David- Like, re: the “I’d rather have Tee Higgins” part, believe me I would too! Before Higgins got tagged, my initial (unrealistic) hope was that he’d hit the market and we’d literally replace Ridley with Higgins.

but we can’t just blurt that out now and ignore the context of how much Higgins actually costs and what our realistic options were. Not only would he cost ANOTHER draft pick (if Cincy was even willing to trade him) on top of the one we just wasted on Ridley, but in this market he easily costs several million more per year than Ridley does! So what’s making Jags fans think that even if Higgins wasn’t tagged and wanted to come here that we’d pay him if we wouldn’t even pay Ridley?

It might be crazy to hear this cause this number really has jumped a lot in just the last two years, but $22M a season for a potential 1200-1300 yard WR1 is a bargain - maybe not a “bargain” for a typical 29 year old when you factor in age, but Ridley’s legs are still low mileage. In a league where Hunter Renfrow makes $16M, yes I would easily pay Ridley marginally more than that lol, instead of doing the same thing as the Renfrow move and signing some rando WR3 Davis to $13M and acting like that’s the smarter move lol. Ridley was the best guy on the market and we should have realized that was the best deal we’re gonna get - for comparison, Tee Higgins if he’s even being shopped costs a second draft pick and tens of millions more in contract money to upgrade from Ridley

in hindsight, yes, Kirk was worth what he’s getting paid, but hindsight conveniently ignores that the WR market didn’t jump like this until after we paid Kirk. So that’s why I bring up the Kirk signing - at the time, it WAS an overpay, but that single move is still talked about by NFL GMs for inflating the cost of a WR. So it’s absolutely asinine that WE are the team that budged and we’re like “we’re fine with paying 20% above previous market value for a WR we like” - but then refused to do that same exact thing with the better receiver we traded for when Kirk wasn’t enough!

cap's gonna keep going up, salaries are gonna go up - almost any deal signed now is going to look like a relative bargain

And like, I feel like on paper people understand this concept - but don’t grasp the magnitude of it when we actually talk about contracts every year. Not only did the WR market jump like 20-25% because of 2022 free agency alone… but the entire salary cap itself just jumped what, 10-15% in one year in this 2024 offseason! So yes, what elite WR1s were getting paid during the pandemic is what “potential / we’ll see if he can take another step forward” kinda-WR1s cost now. It’s just logical based on math that Ridley was gonna cost above $20M AAV

much like everything else in American capitalism since then lmfao
