I understand that, I’m saying it’s more likely his higher cap hits come sooner rather than later

being on a tag when you know your extension is gonna be a top 5 contract at the position anyway, is a bit different than like, the scenario where a guy with one year left of ballooned salary that EXCEEDS his AAV value signs an extension to lower that this-year cap hit

I can't believe we've gotten to this point where after last season we're having this kind of watch for Calvin Ridley

 

Ridley should sign with whichever team will actually use him over the middle

 

He felt disrespected after the Gabe Davis signing so he's dragging this out to prove a point

They'll be able to structure it where his cap hit for 2024 is significantly lower than the 24 million it is now. Example: Evan Engram last year was tagged for nearly $12 million dollars, but after signing an extension his cap hit ended up being only $5 million.

I would STILL say that 4 years $90M is not a surprise to me, $22.5M AAV is right around my (current market) value for a veteran WR1 who is good, still has a couple prime years, but needs to take another step forward to be top 10. Considering near-elite 29 year old WRs be making $27M-$30M AAV now, that’s a nice price for Ridley… who you could argue still hasn’t hit his ceiling yet and also isn’t due for decline yet, due to circumstances.

If it’s 3 years $90M though, that’s when I’m like… simmer down at no point in your career have you had THAT value
