Wouldn't this just mean they pay him a lot of money and get nothing vs. paying him nothing and getting something back

Yeah there were a lot of rumors about an NFC team trading up for him. Giants make no sense since they're already at 6. Atlanta just eliminated themselves. Unless the Bears are dumber than any of us ever thought possible that leaves the Vikings or a REAL expensive move

Yes they could have cut him but let's be fucking real no one would be giving them brownie points for being the good little soldiers they are while they're still paying him massive amounts of money while he doesn't have to play for them and THEN also gets paid massive amounts of money by the Browns

There was not a way to "win" because it was just heinous from the start
