I don’t get how signing Ridley is the easier move to make.

Ridley always knew the open market was gonna offer him top 5 WR contracts. It’s not like he would’ve came that much cheaper. And not only does he know his value but he also only played here for one season, not long enough to establish the kind of bonds that are hard to walk away from. I think it was clear as day you just give Josh Allen the bag early and franchise Ridley so you have some more time to kindle something between him and Trevor.

Same reason it took Chris Jones a franchise cycle, an extended holdout, a season played on a one year bridge contract, and it being 3 days before his FA with no tag opened for him to get his big contract even though “give him the bag” was the end game they were both playing towards

it is generally not as easy as simply “giving him the bag” for market resetting contracts and it takes two to tango on that; no real reason for Allen to accept anything other than precedent shattering money right now and no real reason for Jags to offer their final offer, and even if one moved in that direction, it’d also take the other party accepting the offer to move forward

deadlines spur action and we’re not at a deadline period for Allen but we are for Ridley
