When is the last time we have ever seen a player decline the last two years of a contract and basically say “Yeah, I know I’m still under contract with you all, but I don’t feel like being here anymore. Bye!”

The vibes outside and inside the building are entirely different. Example: Trevor Lawrence likes his offense and doesn’t realize how much better it could be. That is NOT going to stop fans from clamoring for us to replace this line and add serious competition to the WR room.

the players believe us to be very close and take a lot of personal accountability for our failures. It’s not a bad vibes toward the coach / GM situation, at least not yet.

that’s not how it works though. We can’t just change the terms of much he earns under contract without consent. He would either be earning all of that money (including the non guaranteed money) or he’d be cut loose early enough to still sign a lucrative deal with another team. There’s no third option here where he gets screwed out of money but also can’t sign with anyone else

I do get what you’re saying @Dinkleberg but there are ways to be smart about it, I acknowledge I’m being idealistic about how creative teams are with contracts though

 

And I 100% am pissed they franchised Allen and let Ridley walk. If the relationship between the players and front office is going to fracture… well, that’s the point we will look at, in hindsight, where the wheels started going into motion.

Yeah and I’m not suggesting they can’t be creative about the contract, but there are ways to go about it without being overtly pro-team and anti-player by suggesting Allen should just take a six-year deal that gives the team significant control of, essentially, the rest of his career

 

but for real the first season is a little rough but it starts picking up in the middle of season 2 and keeps getting better from there. First season is only 5 episodes anyways.
