I’m just explaining why people dunk on them all the time. You and other Jags fans can be upset about it all you want. It just is what it is. Other incompetent teams get clowned on all the time too

I’m not seeing what’s different about him hitting the market at 31 vs 32.

I literally posted a tweet yesterday about the jets sucking ass at free agency and tagged 2 jets fans

Players don’t want to hit the market in their 30s when their best years are behind them. That’s why many of them sign somewhere around a three-year deal!

Not the ones who get big-time paid by a team that’s been winning a fair amount recently

Yeah man, maybe I’m wrong, but I’m guessing Chris Jones and Nick Bosa like playing for competent teams

its always more fun to dunk on teams that are constantly hyped up/supposed to be good but fail anyway ie. cowboys, jets. jags arent really on my radar there

Josh Allen is going to be 27 this year on the franchise tag. If I’m him, I’m negotiating for a three-year deal so I have a chance to hit the market again at 30, not a six-year year deal where I don’t hit market again until I’m 33 unless the team cuts me because they don’t think I’m worth it anymore

Feel like those really long deals were a result of the salary cap being smaller. Like the Albert Haynesworth deal was 7 years, didn’t McNabb and Vick sign 7 or 8 year deals at one point as well? I think Bledsoe signed like a 10 year deal in the 90s

I mean job security is nice. Not having to move is nice. I could imagine Josh Allen wanting out if we were still as bad as we were before Doug, but we aren’t a horrible franchise, there’s reason to believe we can continue a positive trajectory. The main thing is just, pay the man what the market would pay him and he’ll stay!

It’s a slippery slope, my friend. my wife is currently out with her coworkers bringing more plants to our house when we already have about a dozen.

Also, such long-term deals are just…not a thing anymore. There’s a reason players are advocating for shorter deals. The longer the deal, the more control you’re giving to the team with how it’s structured. It’s so easy for GMs to front-load the first couple years of a contract and cutting the player before it gets big. Much more difficult to do on a two or three-year deal

    The rivalry is back on

100% — it’s different if a 6 year deal is 6 year, fully guaranteed deal, but in reality, a 6 year deal locks a player in for 6 years if they play at or above their contract level but only locks a team in for 2-3 years before they start having contractual outs to not actually pay the back 3-4 years in the event the player’s play drops off

no reason as a player to sign that over a 3 year contract

that’s the point of the extra $30M guaranteed later in the deal that can be unlocked via incentives. You could even structure it in a way that gives either the team OR Josh Allen an option to decline those final two years kicking in if either party wants to move on.

I mean, Allen could also receive job security from other teams. Maybe he wants to move. I could imagine Allen wanting out if he wants to play for a better team than the Jacksonville Jaguars, whose coaching staff and general manager have been routinely criticized by the Jags fans I’ve communicated with over the last six months. There’s reason to believe he can continue a positive trajectory elsewhere. The main thing is show the man some respect during the negotiation process instead of offering him some ludicrously long-term deal that offers him no future flexibility and lets the team dictate to him and the rest of the league what his value is worth whenever they feel like it
