I’ve just never liked the idea of trading assets for a guy who was going to get cut. I know the theory is that you can get them now before the hit the open market where they may not want to sign with you, but isn’t that a tell that maybe you should stop being bad so guys will want to play for you?

You call it a fluke. I call it magic.

 

I think Doug is a good coach. His run with the Eagles from 2017-2019 and his 2022 season with the Jags are examples of it.

For Doug to do what he did with Foles at QB, not just in 2017 but 2018 as well, was pretty incredible. They were one Alshon drop away from possibly going back to the NFCCG. And, in 2019, it’s wild to look back at what Wentz and that offense did with no WR compiling 500+ receiving yards.

I still maintain that Doug’s greatest flaw is his loyalty to his guys. Press played a role, however big or small, in the downfall of Wentz and he has deservedly received criticism as the Jags OC.

 

I like it — for as much as I don’t want the 40th best QB in the league in any plans to be starting games for me, I’d very much like having the 40th best QB in the league as my clear #2 option

Mac to Jags is also just objectively funny for thread meme reasons

Also, it’s very possible that Mac is one of the best backup QBs in the league. Every year, we see, like, half the league start their backup QB for at least one meaningful game. We laugh at and criticize the Mindshews and Mariotas and Tannehills and Tyrods and Bridgewater of the world, but having a decent backup that can win you a game or two when called upon really matters!
