I think the Eagles will only look to trade for Burns if they move on from one/both of Reddick/Sweat and miss out on someone like Huffnor Jonathan Greenard in free agency

I’ve honestly cooled on the hire in recent weeks. I feel like, in a vacuum, it’s a good hire, but I can’t help but feel like the roster is not designed well for his scheme and that Mike Zimmer (who signed with the Cowboys) probably would have been a better fit.

But I don’t think the Reddick/Sweat news over the last month has anything to do with Fangio. Reddick has been a great player, but he’s not elite. If he’s looking to be kid $25m+/year (I hate viewing at contracts through AAV, but I know the players/agents/teams care about it for some reason), then they should trade him considering he’s going to be 30 years old this season. There’s a decent chance his best years are behind him, even if he has another good year or two left in him.

As for Sweat, I think he’s always been a very good player. Got better and better every single year from 2018-2022. He was arguably on pace for the best season of his career in the first half of last season before his production came to a screeching halt after week 9. Before getting a meaningless sack against Baker Mayfield in the playoffs, his last sack was week 9 against the Cowboys. I don’t even think the dude touched an opposing QB after the bye. If he did, it wasn’t often.

Maybe I’m coping, idk. I just can’t help but feel like there’s still going to be a stink around this team and the coaches are all going to get fired after this year. I hope not. I want to believe, but I do think the Fangio stuff and the Reddick/Sweat stuff are separate from each other. I’d like them to keep both Reddick/Sweat in the hopes of bounce-back years from both, but there’s are justifiable reasons for the Eagles to trade either or both of them.

 

Depends on when their bye week is. I’ll never forget watching the prior to the bye and thinking “This team is good, but there are some concerns” to then watching them after the bye and wondering “How did a team get worse DURING the bye” lmao

I think I would rather have Burns than Huff, but I understand that obviously getting Burns will be more complicated.

With that being said, I know Huff is coming off a breakout season, but he did it as a rotational player. Maybe he pans out. I wouldn’t blame any team for taking the shot. I just think it would be risky for the Eagles if they move on from both Reddick and Sweat, and comprise the majority of the edge rusher room with Huff, Nolan Smith, and Brandon Graham. Smith has shown nothing to believe he can be a legit starter right now and Graham is just a rotational guy at this point.

If they sign Huff, they gotta keep one of Reddick/Sweat. If both are gone, they gotta add another guy they can hang their hat on.
