I got hired at a restaurant so today I’m looking at office jobs

 

Unfortunately, the hit rate on cold job application to interview is probably like 1/100 for big corporate type roles

 

It also takes time to apply for unemployment/SNAP just in case and stuff like that so yeah I’ve been busy

 

Exactly I can’t just sit here moneyless until I get a hit

 

It’s expensive to be poor and the worse of a situation you’re in the more extra expenses you have to pay to get out, etc.

Just paid off all my credit debt so THAT doesn’t get worse while I’m in this situation. Been taking buses and biking places to save money on fuckin Ubers and that uses up time and energy too

 

I apply for 5-10 jobs a day and I have a tech office job already haha

 

I would love to get paid enough and have enough free time in my work from home office job to be able to apply for jobs on the clock but that’s not a reality for me. Most of my two jobs I worked don’t allow cell phones on the clock for even like a minute when it’s slow

 

Gotta maximize your options so cold applying, you need a linked in profile with open to work and get connected with recruiters, etc. Find out the recruiting firms that handle your field and contact them directly.

 

I got my job cuz I used to date my old boss's sister, have you tried finding out who's in charge of these tech companies and sleeping with their family?

 

Is a recruiting firm and a staffing agency the same thing? Cause my (possibly incorrect) view of going through like IT staffing firms is like, involuntary relocation for a temp job that’s gonna pay you shit & work you long hours, I feel like I should aim higher as a grad from a good school

 

It's different, a staffing agency basically makes you apply and then they assign you wherever whenever. Recruiters aren't pass/fail and just try to help you find jobs by being your connection. I wouldn't go through a staffing agency, I would get a recruiter

...I can appreciate what you're trying to say, but I just need to be clear about something. I am currently working 60+ hours a week while also raising a 1 year old at home. I assure you, if I can find 15 mins to fuck around on LinkedIn and apply for a few jobs, so can you.

 

Yeah the recruiting firms are working directly with businesses to fill open roles. They want good candidates that will stay awhile because the company has to pay the recruiting firm a percentage of the year one salary or something. So they’re real career jobs.

 

And yeah quick apply on linked in is where it’s at lol. Everyone is spamming it but you gotta get in the game.

 

I would also try and find some people via linkedIn who are working in the field already and see if you can pick their brain about getting into the field.

I am applying to all kinds of jobs. I just shared that one cause that’s really good pay for a recent graduates program and it’s in DC where I wouldn’t have to move to work there.

 

lol in fairness, I'd also get in trouble for applying for jobs if they found out

 

You could also reach out to your college to see what resources they have.

 

But I will do more quick apply on LinkedIn (because I previously thought that was bullshit)

also why are 60% of jobs on Indeed scams???

 

I’ve applied to thousands of jobs on Indeed in my life, it has not been an effective route

 

I prefer applying through LinkedIn. Feel like indeed is crap.

 

I would also check in to, and I'm not trying to be weird or an asshole here, but when I go to marketing conferences there are very specific groups geared towards making the industry more accessible for black professionals, so my guess is there may be something like that too where you can score a good connection, advice etc.

 

Yeah idk I need to start applying for jobs too but every time I see something I'm like "ehhhhh"
