I don’t even consider Hattie B’s fast food, it’s above that. It’s southern takeout.

Yeah it's not fast food I was just talkin about chain (or chain-ish) chicken in general

 

The only place in Nashville that I’ve had better hot chicken than Hattie B’s is Pepperfire, but unfortunately they closed the east Nashville location I loved and now it’s only in a dumb ugly part of town

the chicken itself is comparable, Hattie’s is juicier but slightly too oily, but Pepperfire’s sides were elite. Hattie’s are good, but not same tier. I’m not a fan of their Mac and cheese being made with pimento cheese.

 

the absolute ****best**** hot chicken i ever had was in east nashville in this literal shed of a place in like a gas station parking lot. it was right near our airBB. i am pretty sure the hurricane in 2020/2021 whenever it was caused them to close. now it appears to be an ice cream place.

this is literally how small it is. everything made to order, taking one order at a time and making it for you right there. i miss it dearly.

There was a BBQ place between Jacksonville and Jacksonville beach exactly like this, that my best friend growing up’s family would always take us to on the way back from the beach.

Still some of the best BBQ I’ve had, granted it was the kind that you dip in tangy BBQ sauces and not the authentic kind but it was so delicious. They closed unfortunately.

Hattie’s is to Nashville fried chicken as I’d imagine Five Guys was to DC burgers in the 00s when it was in its niche but massive growth stage

Really solid option for fried chicken when I’m in Atlanta, GA or the Nashville airport but I’d recommend literally anything else if you’re actually in Nashville and getting authentic hot chicken. It’s p good but everything about it is just like corporate hot chicken

idk, right before they had that rapid expansion and opened their Atlanta location etc is when I was touring to places like Nashville & back then it was one of the top places locals would recommend. I went to their original south Nashville location cause they only had two locations back then, and it was really out of the way, but ended up being SO worth it

their chicken actually is really fuckin good

 

Usually places like that are only able to expand because they’re WILDLY POPULAR in their region and always have a long ass line
