Thinking Russ wouldn’t but Fields would is wild to me but who is surprised that I disagree with Matt :)

 

At worst they result would be the same for Fields/Russ the only difference is one has a higher ceiling and it's a an easy decision to take his 5th year option if this year works out. If Russ works out what're you doing? Re-signing him to big money? Putting yourself in this exact same situation and just passing the buck down one year? Who knows, maybe they draft Nix or Penix.

Fields had 11 more turnovers than Russ in the last two years, that’s my “at worst”. Steelers are never going to change their offense enough to capitalize on Fields’ running anyway, Russ much more fits Tomlin’s mold

The Steelers literally just changed their offense to someone who is a fit for Fields.

 

And I guarantee you Steelers GM is gonna look at the cost difference between sitting on Russ and being patient until the right QB situation appears in the draft, and the cost of paying Fields whether he does or doesn’t get it together in terms of processing reads as a passer. And is going to choose Russ. That’s just the kinda team they are lol

 

To me, Rudolph is not in the same tier as Pickett and Trubisky. Sure we lost the playoff game, but the offense was HUMMING along with him at the helm.

 

Fair point. And it’s not like your assessment isn’t valid. On paper yes take the young QB who’s still a blank slate and could be molded into something. I honestly just believe the cost of trading for AND re-signing Fields… I mean even that fifth year option is pretty steep for a QB with that many question marks.

 

They don't have to pay Fields though. He has two years left. They sign Russ to a minimum deal and he works out then what? Overpaying for a mediocre 37 year old or you're in the same situation you're in right now.

Fields would be a better choice than Russ if they cost the same. But the fact that the Broncos have already paid for all the risk of signing Russell Wilson makes him a better choice. What’s stopping Pittsburgh from ALSO drafting a QB this year or next, and since Russ is making vet min, just cut and replace him if he sucks!! Hell they could sign Russ AND go for Cousins or Fields lmfao
