Weirdest part is Russ would probably be fine (statistically he wasnt terrible last year...infinitely better than any Steelers starting QB since Ben)...like middle of the pack, 15-20th best QB kinda play...but because he wont come cheap, I'd rather just go 9-8 with Pickett/Rudolph

 

He could literally just sign anywhere for $1m. He’s going to make his money from Denver and any cent he makes over $1m is a cent less that Denver has to pay him. Some QB needy team should just offer him the minimum.

I think the biggest issue is whether or not he would accept taking a backup job or going to a QB competition situation, he’ll probably want to start without question.

 

I wonder how the taxes work though. Denver is a high tax state vs say Georgia. Might be some incentive to drive up how much they pay.

 

That would be fair but on the flip side I don’t think he is going to have much leverage other than saying he’ll sit the season out. And I think he wants to play.

Can’t find any hard evidence of it but I remember games where he was consistently shitting the bed on 3rd down. The only stat I could really find is that he was sacked on like 20% of his 3rd down drop backs. I think his raw totals kinda mask how bad he was down to down

Oh, I saw enough of him to know he's terrible...but, again, look at Kenny Pickett. You also dont give up on a QB with 2-3 games left just to make sure you can take an $85mil cap hit to start the season unless the numbers are masking something. I think its probably underspoken how big a goober he is and how badly he grates on a locker room. Those Broncos players wanted to murder him the last two years.

But, if anyone can mask that, its Tomlin. And a 24 TD v 8 INT season would be 2x what either of those schmoes are capable of.

Of course, if we're going all in on "this could blow up on us", I'd rather watch a dude who also sucks on 3rd downs but is at least fun to watch play in Fields.

 

Russ sucks. No reason for anyone to convince themselves he can take them to mediocrity for a season. Not worth the risk of awful vibes.
